Longtime director honored..

By By Sharon White/The Meridian Star
The longtime executive director of Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter was honored Tuesday, when the shelter's staff dedicated a new children's building in her honor.
Winki Allen was the director for 13 years, before resigning in July to accept a position with the Lauderdale County School System.
The new building, which is 400 square feet in size, will be used for preschool programs and as an after-school and summer center for children of families receiving assistance from Care Lodge.
She said the building will provide 2- through 5-year-olds with "their own place," with recreational, educational and therapeutic activities after school hours and during the summer.
Care Lodge, which serves families in nine counties, was established in 1981 as a shelter for victims of domestic violence. It operates 24 hours a day as an emergency get-away home that also provides domestic violence victims professional case management assistance.
