Meridian Winds to perform Sunday
The Meridian Winds, an instrumental ensemble of adult and student musicians, will present a concert Sunday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. in the Meridian Community College auditorium. The group is sponsored by MCC and directed by Dr. Carey Smith.
The concert will be dedicated to the memory of the first three directors of the Meridian High School Band Howard Lane, Houston Jenks and Eli Pacetti.
The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will be held afterwards.
Meridian symphony to perform Saturday
The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will present the second concert of its 40th anniversary season Saturday at 8 p.m.
The concert will be held at the Ivy Auditorium on the campus of Meridian Community College. It is entitled "Scots Wha Hae" and consists of a program of Scottish music. The guest artist will be Liviu Prunaru, violinist, playing "Scottish Fantasy" by Max Bruch. Jean Orcutt will play the bagpipe in "Orkney Wedding with Sunrise," by Peter Maxwell Davies.
Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15 or $12 for senior citizens, students and military personnel. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
McRae's Charity Sale set for Saturday
McRae's Department Store will host an annual Holiday Charity Sale to benefit local non-profit organizations Saturday from 6 to 10 a.m. The community is invited to attend.
Tickets can be purchased in advance from volunteers for $5. Tickets will also be available the day of the event or can be bought in advance from any McRae's sales associate. One hundred percent of proceeds from ticket sales will benefit charity organizations.
Christian Unity 2000 set for Sunday
Christian Unity 2000, starring The Jackson Southernaires of Jackson, The Christianaires of Sontag, The Original Messengers of Jackson, Spencer Taylor Jr. and the Highway QC's of Washington, D.C., and many more will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Magnolia Center in Laurel.

Homemakers club announces Christmas fair
The Clarke County Homemaker Volunteers have scheduled Creative Christmas in Clarke County for Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Multi-purpose Building in Quitman.
There will be food, crafts, woodwork and much more. Steak plates will be sold for $6 each. The table set-up fee will be $6 for each table used. Tables may be reserved by calling 776-3951.
Hospice Care Foundation to host fund-raiser
A Christmas Corner Fund-raiser sponsored by Hospice Care Foundation will be held Dec. 2 at the VFW Post #1493, Highway 16 East in Philadelphia. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m.
Items featured include country crafts and quilting, antiques, home interiors and a bake sale. Limited vendor space is available. Booths are $15 each and may be reserved by calling 389-2006.
Admission is free with the purchase of a plate lunch or a $1 donation at the door. Tickets are available for plate lunches by calling 389-2006.
Proceeds will furnish medicines and supplies for patients unable to afford them at Hospice Care Foundation. The foundation is a non-profit organization that cares for the terminally ill.
Trees of Christmas set for Dec. 2-9
The 2000 Cellular South Trees of Christmas event, presented by the Meridian Restoration Foundation, will be held Dec. 2-9 at Merrehope and the F.W. Williams House. Daily tours are available, and a candlelight tour is scheduled for Dec. 8. For information, call 483-8439.
Kemper announces Christmas parade
The Kemper County Chamber of Commerce has announced that "Christmas Past" is the theme of this year's parade in DeKalb.
The parade will line up on Gewin Avenue facing south. Please be in line no later than 5 p.m. for judging. The parade will start at 6 p.m.
Each float must display the theme on both sides. The name of the organization must be on the float or on the vehicle pulling the float. No Santas in costume are allowed, and nothing may be thrown from floats. No entrance fee is required.
Floats will be judged in three categories: civic, commercial and non-commercial.

Union Christmas parade set for Dec. 5
The Union Chamber of Commerce invites all churches, civic clubs, businesses and industries, school groups, title-holders, bands, etc. to participate in the annual Christmas Parade. All local veterans are encouraged to participate; transportation will be provided. The parade will be Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. This year's theme is "Christmas Blessings 2000." The line-up will start at 4 p.m.

Nutcracker' scheduled for Dec. 9
The Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet and the Meridian Council for the Arts will present "The Nutcracker" on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Temple Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

Rodeo pageants to be held in Jackson
The Miss Rodeo Mississippi and Miss Dixie National pageants will be Jan. 19-20 in Jackson. The deadline to enter is Jan. 1. To receive an entry form, young ladies between the ages of 9 and 23 can send a self-addressed, two- stamped 5×7 envelope to the Miss Rodeo Foundation at P.O. 32, Brandon, MS 39043.
Contestants will be judged in horsemanship, interview and modeling. Miss Rodeo Mississippi contestants will also be required to give a two-minute speech on Mississippi.
The Miss Rodeo Foundation, a non-profit organization. It promotes the horse industry in Mississippi, awards horsemanship scholarships to high school seniors, directs the pageant each January and serves as a governing board for the reigning Miss Rodeo Mississippi. The organization is in need of the following volunteer coordinators: scholarship program, fund-raising, publicity, mass mail-out, scheduling person for Miss Rodeo Mississippi and pageant host committee.
