State Games of Mississippi website wins national award

The National Congress of State Games has named the State Games of Mississippi the 2000 Professional Program Website Category Award winner.
The announcement was made at the 5th Annual State Games National Conference in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Headquartered in Meridian, The State Games of Mississippi is the statewide amateur sportsfest for Mississippi athletes.
Kim Gianakos, president of Gianakos Associates Inc., said, "This website is a natural extension of the yearly promotional work we do for State Games."
In a collaborative effort, Gianakos Associates worked with Bice Advertising of Hattiesburg on the the concept and design of the State Games website.
Rich Winter, graphic designer and website developer at Bice Advertising, was responsible for building the website and as webmaster, Winter was in charge of maintenance and posting up-to-date information on the website.
The State Games website features information on sports categories, contact and registration, sponsors, hotels in Meridian and the surrounding area and information about State Games events, such as Opening Ceremonies and Springfest.
Athletes are able to download entry forms and waivers from the website. They are also able to access information about State Games' regulations, instructions on how to correctly fill out entry forms and detailed information about the registration process.
More than 15,000 people assembled in Meridian this past June for the ninth annual State Games of Mississippi. The State Games provides fun as well as an exciting challenge for aspiring athletes who wish to experience the thrills of Olympic-style competition.
The 2001 State Games will be held in Meridian, on two separate weekends June 15-17 and June 21-24, with Opening Ceremonies scheduled for Friday, June 15.
