Police charge suspect in series of robberies

Meridian police say they have arrested a man they believe is responsible for three strong-arm robberies, and who is a suspect in at least three more.
Detrick D. Harris, 24, of 2222 41st Ave. was taken into custody Tuesday following a special detail by agents with the East Mississippi Drug Task Force and the Violent Crimes Unit and by detectives and officers of the Meridian Police Department.
Bond has been denied for Harris, charged Thursday with three counts of armed robbery. On Wednesday, Harris' bond was revoked for two previous armed robbery charges, a burglary and a forgery charge. He also faces current charges of interfering with police, stemming from police questioning on Tuesday when Harris allegedly falsely identified himself to investigators, said Meridian police Sgt. Joe Hoadley.
Hoadley said Harris is charged with robbing the El Cheapos Discount Beer and Tobacco House on Fifth Street and Airport Boulevard, Fred's Super Dollar Store on 22nd Avenue and the Texaco Food Mart on Highway 39 North.
Harris is also being investigated in connection with two October strong-arm robberies of the Texaco Food Mart on State Boulevard and 20th Street and the strong-arm robberies of Super Stop on Highway 19 North and the Sun Room Tanning Salon, he said.
Hoadley said all the robberies occurred within the last two months.
Harris was taken into custody after agents working a special high crimes detail received information about the robberies from an informant, Hoadley said.
Harris is in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
