Northeast Lauderdale downs West Jones in shootout

Northeast Lauderdale went to a shootout with division rival West Jones Thursday night before coming away with a thrilling 3-2 win in area high school soccer action.
The Trojans got goals from Drew Smith and Russell Huntley in regulation. Smith had the assist on Huntley's goal, while Brian Stringer added an assist on Smith's goal.
Chase Spencer was in goal for the Trojans, stopping three of the five kicks by the host Mustangs in the shootout.
Columbus 3, Northeast 2: In NEL's Friday night match, the Trojans fell to Class 5A Columbus despite another big effort from Spencer.
Smith and Jeff Washburn had the goals for Northeast in the loss, while Kyle Stoddard and Paul Tate had the assists.
Northeast will be in action again Tuesday when the Trojans host Laurel.
Lamar School 6, Parklane Academy 0: In a Thursday match, the Raiders improved to 2-0 on the season with an easy win over Class AAAA Parklane Academy.
Chris Thompson, Nick Lisi and Randy Thompson all scored two goals apiece for Lamar, while Zach Moore had three assists.
Lamar takes on Hillcrest Christian Monday.
Clarkdale girls 3, Wayne County 0: The Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 2-1 on the season by knocking off Class 5A Wayne County Thursday.
Jacqueline Lassiter, Tara Smith and Krystin Waller each scored a goal for Clarkdale, which will host Forrest County Tuesday in its next action.
Clarkdale 4, Wayne County 1: In the boys' matchup between Clarkdale and Wayne County Thursday, the Bulldogs took control early on their way to a win.
Clarkdale, which is 4-0, got a penalty kick from Jonathan Pickett five minutes into the match. David Prewitt later scored on an assist from Justin Culpepper, then Prewitt's assist led to a goal for Ted Thompson.
Paul Gower had the final goal of the night for Clarkdale, which didn't allow Wayne County to score until the 75-minute mark.
Clarkdale takes on West Lauderdale Tuesday.
