Lauderdale County supervisors officially declared the courthouse annex the Raymond P. Davis County Annex Building today.
Board attorney Rick Barry said Davis served Lauderdale County residents for 39 years.
Deputy circuit clerk Renee Covert worked for Davis for 7 1/2 years.
Davis's wife, Lucille Davis, was at the annex Monday for the Board of Supervisor's declaration.
She said she received in late September a copy of a recommendation East Mississippi Business Development Corporation Chairman E.M. "Hoot" Gibson sent the Board of Supervisors.
The Davis' son, Douglas, and his wife, Virginia, traveled from Panama City, Fla., to attend. Peggy Crenshaw, and her husband, Jerry, also attended, along with other family members.
Supervisors invited family members and many city and county elected officials to the meeting, but there will be a more formal dedication after a plaque with the new title bearing Davis' name arrives, Florey said.
Davis was born in Kemper County on May 17, 1921, and moved to Meridian at the age of 3. He passed away on Sept. 4, 2000.
