Meridian police were still searching today for a man who tied up a Bargain Town manager and employee then robbed them at gunpoint as the store closed Monday night.
Lt. John McAlister of the department's Criminal Investigations Division said the robbery took place just after the store closed at 8 p.m. The store is located in the College Park Shopping Center at 832 Highway 19 North.
McAlister said the gunman ordered the manager and the employee into an upstairs office where he demanded money. He then taped their hands and legs before demanding the keys to the front door so he could leave the store, he said. Before leaving, the man hit the manager in the face with the butt of the gun, McAlister said.
Police said the man was last seen running toward Meridian Community College with an undisclosed amount of money.
He is described as black, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches in height and weighing about 180 pounds. McAlister said the man was wearing a panty hose mask under a blue knit hat with holes cut for the eyes and mouth, blue jeans and brown boots.
Police encouraged anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 485-1860.
