Bond was set at $50,000 for a Meridian Public Schools bus driver charged with the sexual battery of a minor.
Sgt. Joe Hoadley of the department's Criminal Investigations Division said Othell Burton Sr., 64, of 3807 Old Highway 45 North, is accused of sexually battering a 10-year-old child.
Burton was taken into custody and charged on Thursday morning after a complaint led to an investigation. Hoadley said the child allegedly attacked is not a student on Burton's route.
Meridian Superintendent of Education Dr. Janet McLin on Thursday evening said she had not yet heard of Burton's arrest.
After his arrest, Burton was transported to the Lauderdale County Detention Facility where he posted bond.
Investigators say they expect to present the case during the next grand jury session, scheduled for March.
