Pickering predicts Bush will win in court

As the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case that may decide who will be the next president, U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering said he thinks Vice President Al Gore may be hearing the fat lady warming up signaling an end to his run at the White House.
Pickering, a Republican, represents Mississippi's 3rd Congressional District. He was in Meridian to speak at a Fannie Mae roundtable discussion on housing.
Gore seemed poised for eventual defeat Friday, but then the Florida Supreme Court ordered the recount his camp had been hoping for. Their elation was short-lived. The U.S. Supreme Court ordered the recount stopped to hear arguments from both parties in the case on Monday.
Pickering applauded the court's decision to take up the case and said he believes they will give the country a final, binding decision.
Pickering said whatever decision was reached by the high court, both parties should adhere to it and allow the decision to be the final.
If Bush is sworn in, Pickering said Mississippians can expect to see progress made in Washington with a Republican-controlled Congress and a GOP president.
