West Lauderdale sweeps Enterprise

West Lauderdale jumped out to an 18-2 first-quarter lead as the Lady Knights improved to 14-4 on the season with a 64-32 win over visiting Enterprise in prep basketball action Saturday night.
After West jumped out to the big early lead, Enterprise fought back in the second and took the period 18-16 for a 34-20 halftime score.
West continued its dominance in the second half as the Lady Knights outscored the Lady Bulldogs 19-10 in the third and 11-2 in the fourth for the final margin of victory.
Kristina Gardner led all scorers for West with 14 points while Cierra Jennings added 12 points while seven other Lady Knights scored.
Shonda Bester had 10 points for Enterprise.
West boys 63, Enterprise 50: Ten West Lauderdale players scored as the Knights used a big third quarter to take a home win over Enterprise.
West jumped out to a 19-13 first-quarter lead and led 34-26 at the half. The Knights broke the game open in the third as they outscored the Bulldogs 20-6 and led 54-32. Enterprise fought back in the fourth by outscoring West 18-9 for the final margin.
Calvin Moore led West with 16 points while Van Wilson added 12.
Burrell Gandy led Enterprise with 13 while Bryan Bester and Mitchell Burns each had 11.
West returns to action Jan. 4 in the Neshoba Central Tournament.
Southern Choctaw boys 59, McIntosh 56: Southern Choctaw improved to 5-1 on the season as the Indians down McIntosh in a tight area contest.
Southern Choctaw opened up a five-point lead with a 16-11 first quarter. McIntosh cut into that lead but Southern Choctaw held a 32-30 halftime lead. The Indians opened up a 13-point lead in the fourth by outscoring McIntosh 18-7. Southern Choctaw (5-1, 2-1) held on in the fourth despite being outscored 19-9 and held on for the win.
Larry Campbell led Southern Choctaw with 12 points while Shawn Causey had nine points.
Central Academy girls 54, Wayne Academy 23: The ever-improving Lady Vikings evened their record at 10-10 with a whipping of Wayne Academy.
Central jumped out 18-4 and led 33-11 at the half as they cruised to the win.
Megan Stokes led Central with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Margaret McClure added 17 points and eight rebounds. Central improved to 4-1 in district play and hosts Winston Academy today.
Heritage boys 72, Lamar 62: Lamar fought back from a 40-31 deficit to force overtime before homestanding Heritage took a 10-point win.
After starting the fourth down by nine, Lamar reeled off 16 straight points and took a 47-40 lead. But Heritage hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. From there, Heritage outscored Lamar 15-5 to take the win.
Dusty Jones led Lamar with 26 points and nine rebounds while Jarrod McKee had 12 points and nine rebounds. Sam Eakes pulled down 11 rebounds for Lamar while Ryan Satcher had six steals.
In the girls game, Heritage won 54-37. In the girls junior high game, Lamar won 31-30 as Cheryl Luquire hit the game winner.
Lake girls 69, Clarkdale 55: Kimyatta Veverette pumped in a game-high 24 points as Lake jumped out to a 53-29 lead and held on for the win.
Lake led 18-10 after the first, 39-20 at the half and 53-29 at the end of the third. Clarkdale fought back in the fourth as the Lady Bulldogs, 7-13, outscored the Lady Hornets 26-16.
Sophomore Kim Cox also had 21 points for Lake.
Carmelita Naylor led Clarkdale with 23 points while JorD'an Orr and Felicia Kirksey each had seven points.
Clarkdale boys 49, Lake 31: Clarkdale used a big first half as Ronny Robert's group outscored Lake 29-13 in the first half en route to an 18-point win.
Jamie Followay led a balanced Clarkdale scoring attack with 14 points while Anthony Holliday added 13 points. Matt Minchew and Bryant Gaddis each had eight points. Neal Tadlock led Lake with 17 points.
Clarkdale returns to action Jan. 5 at Bay Springs.
Scott Central girls 56, Stringer 49: The Lady Rebels improved to 11-4 on the season with a 7-point win over Stringer.
Scott Central broke open a close game in the second quarter as the Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Red Devils 15-4 and led 31-16 at the half. Stringer used a 21-15 fourth quarter to make the game close.
Scott Central's Brittany Burkes led all scorers with 165 points while Katie Nixon added 15 points and Elise Clay 12. Jessica Clark led Stringer with 15 points.
Patrician girls 36, Pickens Academy 16: Patrician got 14 points from Stephanie Guinn as the Lady Saints ran their record to 7-2 with a 20-point win.
Patrician led 8-2 after the first and 17-4 at the end of the first half.
Brooke Dobbins added eight points and eight rebounds for Patrician while Kirby Dexter chipped in seven points.
Patrician returns to action next week in the Glenwood Classic in Phenix City, Ala.
