Post-Christmas shoppers out in force

While returning and exchanging Christmas gifts at local stores Tuesday, many Meridian residents got an early start on next year's holiday shopping.
A similar scene was described by Ceatrice Kelly, assistant manager of Dillards.
While the day after Christmas is traditionally a day of returns and exchanges, most mangers also reported an increase in sales.
Buying remained steady throughout the day.
In anticipation of the day's large turnouts, most stores opened early some at 6 a.m. Inventory was increased, and extra staff members were on duty.
Discounts of up to 50 percent on some items were a major draw.
Even returns and exchanges went without a hitch at most stores.
Likewise for customers at Wal-Mart.
For those who missed out on Tuesday's bargains, there's still time.
