Meridian police are searching for a gunman who robbed a Super Stop late Wednesday night, injuring a clerk before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Lt. John McAlister of the department's Criminal Investigation's Division said the robbery occurred at the No. 2 Super Stop, 1400 24th Ave., at about 11:45 p.m.
McAlister said the clerk was alone in the store when a man entered through the front door, pulled a ski mask over his face, brandished a small-caliber handgun and told the clerk to go to a storage room at the rear of the store.
The clerk said the robber then told him to walk to the cash register. When he turned around to walk through the door of the storage room, the gunman struck him on the head with the butt of the gun, McAlister said. The robber took money from the register and was seen by witnesses running from the store.
The clerk was taken to a local hospital, where he received stitches, McAlister said.
No customers were in the store at the time of the robbery.
The man is described as black, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 175 pounds and wearing a thick black ski jacket, dark pants and dark shoes.
Residents with information can call CrimeStoppers at 485-1860.
