Lamar drops a pair to Copiah

It was a tough night for the Lamar Raiders Saturday as the girls and boys teams each lost to Copiah.
Copiah girls 56, Lamar 23: Lamar's girls couldn't find an answer for Copiah in the opener.
The Lady Raiders were led by Melissa Pennington with 10 points.
Copiah boys 60, Lamar 52: Lamar's boy's fared better than the girls but still came out of the game with an eith-point loss.
The bright spots for the Raiders were the performances of Jared McKee andDusty Jones. McKee recorded a double-double, tossing in 16-points and grabbing 13 rebounds. He also blocked three shots.
Jones also scored 16 points, while adding eight boards and three blocks.
Cooper Huff added 12 points for Lamar.
Sumter Academy girls 64, Marion Military Institute 39: Sumter jumped out out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised to a 25-point win over MMI.
Amanda Chambless led Sumter with 16 points seven rebounds and seven blocks. J.J. Cook and Katie McGough each added 10 points.
Christal Diaz led MMI with 29 points.
Sumter improved to 10-1 with the win.
Marion Military Institute boys 68, Sumter Academy 65: After battling to a tie at the end of four quarters, Sumter's boys dropped an overtime decision to MMI.
Shane Martin scored 27 points to lead Sumter. John Upchurch added 10 points.
MMI was led by John Laycock with 25 points and D.J. Williams with 22.
Sumter fell to 5-6 with the loss.
Lake girls 62, Puckett 40: Lake improved to 14-3 with the 22-point win over Puckett Saturday night.
Lake took an early 11-point lead and never trailed in the game.
Kimyatta Viverette scored 21 points to lead Lake. Kim Cox added 12 points and Shariece Towner scored 10.
Wayne County girls 57, Northeast Jones 23: Wayne County held Northeast to 12 points in the first half and 11 in the second as they improved to 15-3 on the year.
Carla Bartee paced Wayne County with 16 points. Arletha Bartee and Candice Bartee each added 10 points.
Sara Smith scored 15 of Northeast's 23 points.
Wayne County's next game is Tuesday versus Choctaw County, Ala.
Wayne County boys 57, NE Jones 30: Wayne County won the NE Jones tournament Saturday with a win over Northeast.
Rayford Everett led Wayne County with 18 points. Dietric Slater added 16.
Northeast Jones was led by Steve Woodland with seven points.
Wayne County, which improved to 15-2, hosts Choctaw County, Ala. Tuesday.
