Construction crews have begun working to connect the newest annexed area of Meridian to the city's sewer and water systems, City Engineer Monty Jackson said Tuesday.
Jackson gave city council members an update on the progress that is being made in connecting an area around Bonita Lakes.
In addition to connecting the newly annexed area to the city's sewer and water system, a two million gallon water tank is also being constructed near Firetower Hill.
Jackson said the city was required to get easements onto several properties to put the water and sewer lines down.
The sewer portion of the project will cost about $834,000 and the water part of the project will cost about $1.4 million.
Jackson said under the best of circumstances the project could be complete by June.
In other action taken by the council Tuesday:
Council voted unanimously to issue a Resolution of Intent for $1.6 million in bonds for water and sewage construction to annexed area and new Industrial Park.
Council also voted to authorize revenue bonds not to exceed $1.5 million for the purpose of improving and extending water and sewer systems to NAS-Meridian.
