Lamar School head boys' basketball coach Todd Yates was pleased with his team's offensive production against visiting fifth-ranked Jackson Prep on Saturday night.
It was the defense that caused a few problems.
The Patriots knocked down 14-of-24 3-pointers on the way to a 91-53 win.
The Lady Patriots of Jackson Prep, ranked No. 2 in the state in private school basketball, also took care of business with a 54-30 win over the Lady Raiders.
Lamar plays host to Leake Academy on Monday with junior high action beginning at 4 p.m. The varsity girls game is set to begin around 6 p.m.
The Prep boys jumped out to a 25-6 first quarter lead before the Raiders, now 6-14 on the season, began to settle down.
The Patriots only out-scored Lamar 16-14 in the second quarter, but led 41-20 at the half.
Prep stretched its lead again in the third quarter, taking a 66-31 lead with just eight minutes to play. Lamar gave up 25 points in three of the four quarters.
While the defense was a disappointment to Yates, he was pleased with the offense.
It was just the second time this year that Lamar has scored 50 points or more in back-to-back games. The 91 points marked just the second time the Raiders have given up more than 70 points in a game, with Heritage needing an overtime period to score 72 against Lamar in December.
Lamar shot the ball extremely well from the floor, hitting on 16-of-27 shots from two-point range and 4-of-12 from behind the arc. The Raiders were also 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
Jared McKee led Lamar with 23 points and six rebounds on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 accuracy from the line.
Dusty Jones was next with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Jackson Prep girls 54, Lamar 30: The visiting Lady Patriots took a 24-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and controlled the game throughout.
Prep stretched that to 35-16 after two quarters of play. Lamar played the visitors even in the third quarter, as Prep led 42-23 going into the final quarter.
Libby Huff led Lamar with 15 points, while Myleia Shirley scored eight.
Meghan Odom scored 12 for Prep.
