Meridian police are searching for suspects involved in armed robberies at a discount store and medical clinic in different parts of the city over a two-hour period Friday night.
Reports said employees of Dollar General on North Hills Street near Highway 19 North were tied up and locked in a back room about 8:15 p.m. The victims said they were approached by a black man, armed with a gun, wearing grayish-colored pantyhose over his head. Two customers were reportedly the ones who went next door to a Dixie Gas Station and notified police.
No information was available at press time Friday night on the amount of money or merchandise taken. No one was reportedly seriously injured in the incident.
The man, who victims described as being about 5 foot and "stocky," was reportedly wearing a "cheap or imitation-looking" black leather jacket, gloves and dark brown pants.
Earlier Friday evening, police were called to Psychology Associates, 2403 Highway 39 North, where about 6:30 p.m. a black man had reportedly entered the clinic carrying a gun.
Personnel at the business told authorities the man was wearing a hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans. He reportedly took an employee's purse and fled the building.
Police said within the last month three businesses in the same area have been targeted by armed robbers.
