DEKALB The dreary weather outside the gym in Kemper County may have kept many people from attending the Lady Wildcats' matchup with Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday night.
For those in attendance, however, the atmosphere and action inside was far from dreary as the Lady Wildcats kept the game close throughout the night.
However, the Lady Trojans dominated in the fourth quarter, scoring 25 points to take the 58-44 victory.
Northeast jumped out to an early 9-4 lead after the first quarter. But the Lady Wildcats answered with help from Monique Mosley and Brooke Hudson to pull within four at the half. Dorecious Powe helped give the Lady Trojans their slim 20-16 advantage going into the locker room.
The Lady Wildcats rallied after the break to tie the game at 20 with 6:43 left in the third quarter. From there Northeast went on a 6-0 run with shots by Powe and freshman Crystal Hopson.
Kemper fought to regain its lead though, and it paid off. The Lady Wildcats went up 33-30 with just one quarter of play remaining.
The Lady Trojans couldn't seem to get things going until Stegall called a time out with just over six minutes left in the game.
Following the huddle, the Lady Trojans went on another 6-0 burst to eventually pull away with two minutes to go. The final 120 seconds saw Northeast embark on an 8-0 run to take home the victory.
Hudson led Kemper with 19, while Mosley added 17. Powe netted a game-high 22 points for the Lady Trojans and Quin Jackson chipped in with 15.
