Families to be recognized Monday
for their work in the community

More than 180 families involved in Lauderdale County Extension Service's Community Development Club Program will be recognized Monday during the annual Community Development Clubs Awards Program.
The awards program will begin at 7 p.m. at Howard Johnson's Convention Center. During the evening, seven community clubs will be saluted for the 93 club projects successfully completed last year. Also, a club will be named "Outstanding Community Development Club for 2000." The evening will culminate with the announcement of the recipients for Outstanding Man and Woman of the Year.
Among tasks performed by club members are:
community clean-ups, fire department sponsorships, senior adult programs, sponsoring 4-H clubs and Boy Scout troops, assisting with community crisis, working with East Mississippi State Hospital, working with the Boy's and Girl's Club of Lauderdale County, meeting the needs of Hilltop House for Boys and Girls, providing community health fairs, providing a place and sponsoring community ball teams, planning and instigating community festivals, sponsoring Easter egg hunts and fall festivals, providing a place for community activities and family reunions, conducting blood pressure screenings, giving scholarships to Meridian Community College, recycling, visiting shut-ins, coordinating a pet clinic, making and donating therapy dolls and gowns to the Children's Hospital in Jackson, sponsoring bicycle safety rodeos, refurbishing the Care Lodge and for helping with LOVE's Kitchen, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society and Habitat for the Humanity.
