The Meridian Public School District board of trustees is considering a $2.5 million project in the first phase of a renovation plan for Meridian High School.
Landry and Lewis Architects proposed a seven-phase plan during a school board work session Monday.
The first phase will include: 1) installation of an elevator; 2) re-working the electrical system; 3) lighting improvements; 4) installation of a fire alarm system in the main building; 5) upgrading the Activities Building from a two-pipe system to a four-pipe system; 6) water-proofing the exterior; 7) making the library handicapped accessible; 7) repairing the library roof repairs; 8) adding doors to the heath classrooms; and 9) changing of the control system-heating/air system in the Library/Science building.
The other six phases of the "dream plan" for Meridian High School will only be implemented if funding is available, school district officials said.
Other phases of the plan include: a new baseball stadium and softball field, a new parking lot and driveway, re-routing of the traffic flow, a new students service building, a new library and cafeteria, possibly moving ninth grade into the second floor of the new student services building and renovating the Ross Collins building.
The next step for phase one of the master plan is a vote of the Meridian School Board.
The board of trustees is considering holding a special board meeting for the vote. If the board cannot schedule a time for a special board meeting, the vote will take place at a regularly scheduled meeting Feb. 19.
