Man remains in critical condition

A Meridian man remained in critical condition after being struck by a car early Thursday morning.
Police Lt. Wade Johnson said Richard McClelland, 34, of 1726 34th Ave. suffered injuries to his head, neck and leg after he was struck by a car being driven by 21-year-old Travis Thompson of Meridian.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Fifth Street and Highway 11 South at about 5:30 a.m.
Johnson said Thompson was reportedly traveling south on Highway 11 South when McClelland was struck. McClelland was was walking west across Highway 11 South at the time of the accident, Johnson said.
McClelland was transported by Metro Ambulance to Rush Foundation Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Johnson said the department's accident investigation team is investigating the accident.
