The Mississippi Association of Coaches has selected teams for the 19th-Annual Coca-Cola All Star Boy's Soccer game and the Sixth-Annual Coca-Cola All Star Girls' Soccer Game.
The games will be played Saturday, July 14 at Joe Renfroe Stadium on the campus of Hinds Community College. The girls' contest will begin at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at 8:30 p.m.
Players selected from The Meridian Star coverage area include Erin Brown and Ramey Rush from the Meridian High Lady Wildcats team that finished as the Class 5A state runnerup this season. Brown (5-5, 130) will play forward, while Rush (5-6, 117) was selected as a midfielder.
The MAC also selected teams for the 15th-annual Coca-Cola All-Star Girls' Softball games.
The best 2-out of -three will be played Saturday, July 7 at the Raymond High School softball field beginning at 1 p.m.
Seven players from The Meridian Star coverage area were picked for the South All-Stars. Philadelphia had two players in Rhonda Munn and Jennie Battle. Battle was tabbed to play second base, while Munn will see time at shortstop.
Meridian High, last season's Class 5A runnerup, also landed a pair. Brooke Gabriel and Deanna Harris will both play outfield. Newton County, Southeast Lauderdale and West Lauderdale all had a player to make the team as well.
April Bufkin, who starred on the Class 3A state runnerup Lady Cougar squad, will play left field.
Last year's Meridian Star Female Athlete of the Year in Monique Horner will also see action at shortstop.
Brandie Landrum, a fixture on Coach Jerry Boatner's 2000 Class 3A State Champion West Lauderdale Lady Knights squad, will pitch.
