Born in rural Louisiana, Armstrong moved to Jackson as a second-grader. A keen interest in art during high school led her to Mississippi College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in art under the tutelage of Dr. Samuel M. Gore, a well known sculptor and painter. She also studied under Wyatt Waters.
In the professional world, Armstrong spent the better part of 20 years working in the graphic design industry.
Armstrong said there is nothing deep or mysterious about her paintings or subject matter.
Armstrong is a member of the Mississippi Watercolor Society and her works are found in many private and corporate collections. Her first show at Municipal Gallery in 1999 sold out. She recently had a one-man show at Madison Gallery.
Cartmell Gallery &Frame is located at 609 22nd Ave. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday by appointment.
