Benefit to be held for local teen-ager
A benefit will be held Saturday to raise money to help pay medical expenses for Josh Walker, a local teen-ager injured in a four-wheeler accident. He is 14 years old, and is being treated in the pediatric intensive care unit at University Hospital in Jackson. He suffered massive head trauma, and was in critical condition for some time. He is aware of things now and needs to undergo reconstructive surgery.
The benefit will be held Saturday at the Echo Lounge and will feature performances by local musicians Britt Gulley, Scott McQuaig and many others. There will be an auction and food.

Bonita Lakes Saddle club to meet
The Bonita Lakes Saddle Club will meet tonight at the Ole Farm Beef House. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with the meeting to begin at 7 p.m. Members and people interested in equestrian activities in the Meridian area are encouraged to attend. For information, call 485-3079.
Citizens Bank to hold ACS fund-raiser
Citizens National Bank volunteers will sell barbecue plates Friday under the 18th Avenue Bridge, next to Union Station, to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The dinner plates, which will include one-third pound pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, bread and a drink, will be available for $6 beginning at 11 a.m. Bank volunteers hope to sell 500 plates, which are being prepared by Squealer's cooks .
The sale is part of the bank's contribution to this year's Relay for Life, scheduled for June 8-9 at Ray Stadium.
4-H Club presents barrel run
The Lauderdale County 4-H Horse Club will sponsor a barrel run Saturday, at 9 a.m., at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center. For more information, call Debbie at 482-2601 or Marion at 482-1314.
March of Dimes training March 13

Red Cross hosting CPR classes
March is American Red Cross month and the local Key Chapter will host a CPR class March 17, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Meeting Place at Bonita Lakes Mall. Participants will receive certification in adult CPR and will receive a voucher for infant and child certification at a later date.
Preregistration will be accepted before March 14 for a $25 fee. Late registration is $30 and is available the day of the event from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. The course is open to anyone 13 years of age or older. Registration is limited to 35 participants.

Council on Aging to hold meeting
The next meeting of the Lauderdale County Council on Aging will be held March 16, at 2 p.m., at the Senior Citizens Center. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss an addition to the bylaws. May is Older Americans Month, and several events will be held during the month for Lauderdale County residents 55 years of age and older.

MSO to present fourth concert
The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will present the fourth concert of the 40th anniversary season on March 17. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in the Emma McCain Theater at Ivy Hall, on the campus of Meridian Community College.
A pre-concert lecture by Maestro Claire Fox Hillard and guest artist Miroslav Loncar begins at 7 p.m. at MCC's Casteel Gallery. The concert is entitled "The Splendor of Spain." Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15; $12 for seniors/military; and $8 for students. Children under 12 are free.
