MCC softball team wins a pair in Ft. Walton

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagle softball team improved their early-season record to 12-6 by picking up a pair of wins in Saturday's portion of the Okaloosa Walton Tournament in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
MCC 10, North Florida 1: Lady Eagle Pitcher Ryan Reid improved her record to 4-4 as her teammates pounded out a total of 15 hits on the day.
Sophomores Amy Adcox, Nicole Jones and former Meridian High standout Shanna Blanks all had 2-for-4 efforts. Blanks' total included a triple. Freshman Robin Holland of West Lauderdale also went 2-for-4.
Faith Robinson went 2-for-5 against, while Reid helped herself with a 2-for-3 effort.
MCC 8, Rend Lake (Ill.) 4: Adcox improved to 8-2 on the year and did so by getting a big boost from Kenya Wilson, who went 3-for-4 and had a double and a home run. Her bat highlighted an eight-hit attack for coach Robert Eakins.
Dreka Shumpert went 2-for-3 in the second game, and Blanks added another three-bagger.
The Lady Eagles return to the Sunshine State March 16-17 when they take part in the Pensacola Junior College Tournament.
