Meridian police are investigating a Thursday accident in which a 15-year-old boy was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.
Lt. Wade Johnson said Cody Nichols, 17, was struck as he peddled his bike along Bragg Avenue and St. Charles Street. The boy's mother had made pleas early Friday morning for the driver of the car to come forward, he said. Johnson said the driver, a woman, went to the police department late Thursday night for the purpose of making a report.
Police are trying to determine if the driver broke any laws. The driver apparently stopped the car after the accident and asked the boy if he was OK. When the boy said he was uninjured, the driver and her passenger left the scene, Johnson said.
Johnson said the boy, who was transported to a local hospital, received facial cuts and a broken hand in the accident.
A detective has been assigned to the case, Johnson said.
