QUITMAN n The centennial celebration here is just two weeks away, and organizers are getting ready for a busy two days.
One of the major events of Quitman's Centennial Celebration will be a giant flea market sale on Church Street in the former furniture store in the Mini-Mall.
Residents are being asked to contribute items for the sale. All proceeds will go to help the H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital Restoration Fund.
The Flea Market committee is requesting household furnishings, home decorative items, kitchen items, small and large appliances, bathroom items, toys, etc. The only things they are not accepting are clothes.
The Flea Market opens Friday, April 30, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Volunteers are in the process of pricing each item for the sale.

The Flea Market is just one of several events planned for March 31. There will be a parade, train rides to Enterprise on antique coaches, a street fair, a historical pageant, children's games and sidewalk sales.
On Sunday, April 1, there will be good food and fellowship at an old fashioned "dinner-on-the-ground," starting at 1 p.m. It will be held at the pecan grove next to First Baptist Church and the public is invited. Everyone is encouraged to bring a covered dish.
