MC alumni meeting set for Thursday
All alumni and friends of Mississippi College are invited to attend the Meridian area chapter alumni meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Friends and classmates of the last 60 years are invited to a special evening of memories, reports from MC and great barbecue. The dinner ticket is $5. Newton schools hold beauty pageants
Newton County Elementary School and Newton County Junior High School will hold their annual "Beauty and Beau Pageant" March 31 at 6 p.m. at the East Central Community College auditorium. Contestants can be in kindergarten through eighth grade; applications must be received by Friday.

Guided tours of Grand Opera House available
Guided tours of the Grand Opera House of Mississippi are being scheduled for Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tours will start every hour and half-hour. The cost is $5 per person. Make reservations for groups or individuals by calling Pegi Harmon at 482-6127 or Margaret Remy at 485-3278. Walk-ups are also welcome but reservations will ensure that you can take the tour at the time of your choice.
The Grand Opera House is located in downtown Meridian on Fifth Street between 22nd and 23rd avenues. A treasures and trash sale will be held the same day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marks Rothenberg Building. Only cash will be accepted.
The event is sponsored by the board of trustees of the Grand Opera House of Mississippi.

LIFE organization holding fund-raiser
Living Independence for Everyone (LIFE) has opened a satellite office in Meridian. LIFE is a non-profit organization that helps individuals with disabilities. Its budget is supported by donations and fund-raisers. On July 4, they will hold a raffle for a mink coat and an oak daybed. Tickets are $1. American Business Women to meet
The Pinnacle Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will meet March 27 at Western Sizzlin' Restaurant, 1100 N. Frontage Road. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Robbie Hales of The Liberty Shop will present a "Spring Fling" fashion show. Members and guests should order their dinner as they arrive. The waitresses will serve dinner at 6 p.m. Hales has put several outfits together to give the working woman a first-hand preview of spring fashions.

Red Cross announces Help Save A Life'
The Key Chapter of the American Red Cross has announced its "Help Save A Life" summer campaign. Summer is approaching and many activities are being planned. The following courses are being offered to educate residents about water safety, CPR, first aid awareness and prevention.
Life guarding course Ages 17 and over, teaches the essential skills of first aid, CPR, how to perform water rescue, aquatic safety, etc. Dates of the classes are April 21-22, 27-29. For more information, call 485-5151.
Water Safety Instructor course Teaches pool safety and how to instruct different age groups in the skill of swimming. For more information, call Barbara Bishop at 484-8720.
CPR/First Aid Instructor class Teaches how to instruct the public in the art of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid. Dates of the classes are April 20-22. For more information, call 485-5151.

Newton County Relay for Life' set
This year the Newton County division of the American Cancer Society will host the annual "Relay for Life" on Friday, June 1, at East Central Community College in Decatur. There will be entertainment, food and games. The next team captains' meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on April 10, at Newton Regional Hospital. EMCC offers parenting workshop
The staff of East Mississippi Community College is offering a series of parenting workshops, at 11 a.m. each Wednesday, on the Scooba Campus.
The program, called Right from Birth, teaches parents how to provide their children with the necessary skills and foundation for future learning and success in school. The series revolves around a collection of 15-minute videotapes that includes interviews with noted scientists, physicians and educators in the field of childhood development.
Right from Birth is sponsored by Mississippi Educational Television, the Department of Human Services and the EMCC Special Populations program. Mary M. Smith, counselor with the Special Populations program, is the on-site facilitator for the workshops.
