Three volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club of Lauderdale County will receive awards tonight during the club's "Celebration of Excellence" banquet.
This year's banquet will be held at the Frank Cochran Center, with former Ole Miss and New Orleans Saints football star Archie Manning as keynote speaker.
Highlighting the event will be the recognition ceremony, where a young person, a volunteer and an alumna will honored for their service.
Youth of the Year'
Courtney Hill will receive the "Youth of the Year" award.
Hill is a 17-year-old Meridian High School junior, who has been a member of the club for eight years.
Hill is the son of Stacy Hill of Meridian.
Alumna of the Year'
Selected as this year's "Alumna of the Year" is Scenobia Emerson, a senior at Jackson State University working toward a degree in criminal justice.
Emerson, the daughter of Cynthia Emerson of Meridian, has been associated with the club for 11 years.
George Brooks, men's basketball coach at Meridian Community College, will receive this year's "Volunteer of the Year" award.
Brooks, who joined MCC's staff four years ago, has devoted many afternoons during the school year and hundreds of summer days helping young people at the Boys and Girls Club, Cobb said.
Brooks, the father of a 21-month-old and a 3-month-old, said his work with the local club is more of a blessing to him than to the young people he helps.
The celebration will also include the recognition of others who have played a vital role in molding the Boys and Girls Club of Lauderdale County into the model club it is today, Cobb said.
