Doctor donates office building to Wesley House

Although a door is closing for Dr. Ben McEachin, a window is opening on a larger future for a local human services agency.
McEachin retired in November after 26 years as a dermatologist at his 1216 21st Ave. office. Over the last few months, he debated about how to use the structure for the good of his community.
He made up his mind, and turned the keys to the building over to officials of Wesley House Community Center clearing the path for physical growth and the expansion of services there.
He said Nell Grissom, the center's executive director, gives of herself almost to the point of giving "sacrificially."
Wesley House Community Center officials operate 31 community programs out of their facility in South Meridian, serving 3,300 people from Lauderdale and the surrounding counties each year.
Wesley House Community Center was build in 1977. The building has been expanded over the years, and now includes 10,000 square feet.
Grissom said she is still deciding what to do with the additional space.
