Lauderdale prisoner back in custody

A Lauderdale County inmate who walked off a work detail and then fled Mississippi with his 15-year-old girlfriend last week surrendered Thursday night and is now in custody of state authorities.
Glenn "Bo" George, 19, was reportedly picked up in southwest Oklahoma earlier this week and returned to Mississippi by family members, said Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.
Calhoun said the girlfriend is in custody at the Lauderdale County Juvenile Center awaiting a hearing set for next week. George has been placed in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Calhoun said officials here strongly suspected George would turn up in that neighborhood because authorities near Snyder, Okla., had located a 1998 Mazda Protege stolen in Meridian shortly after George disappeared.
George walked away from a work detail March 15 about 3:15 p.m. in the Lost Gap community. Investigators said they believed he took the car from a service station in Meridian and picked up his girlfriend before fleeing the state.
Calhoun said George was transferred from the Lauderdale County Detention Facility Friday afternoon and is now in custody in Rankin County. He said George was originally jailed for violation of probation stemming from an earlier grand larceny conviction.
