Johnson named Kemper County administrator

DEKALB Kemper County supervisors Monday named Hazel Johnson to fill the position of county administrator.
A native of Kemper County, Johnson grew up in the Kipling community about 10 miles south of DeKalb and worked for General Motors for 25 years before returning home. Currently, she is a deputy clerk in the Kemper County tax assessor's office.
Mike McGrevey, executive director of the Kemper County Economic Development Authority, served as interim county administrator after Bobbie Harbour retired in November 2000.
Johnson said she applied for the job because she wants to do something positive for Kemper County.
Johnson said she will assume the county administrator's duties when another deputy clerk is hired to fill her role at the tax assessor's office. She said she will then meet with supervisors, McGrevey and Harbour for training and establish some of her own goals.
Her career with General Motors took her to Florida, Arkansas, Tupelo and Jackson before she moved back to Kemper County.
