After years of helping patients, the Greater Meridian Health Clinic has received aid of its own almost $2 million in federal funds.
U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., announced Tuesday the clinic received a $1,904,985 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Bureau of Primary Care.
The three- to five-year renewable grant will help the clinic's staff continue to offer this assistance.
Wilbert Jones, chief executive officer of the Greater Meridian Health Clinic, said the group is thankful of Pickering's work on their behalf.
Five clinics comprise the Greater Meridian Health Clinic Inc. one in Lauderdale, Winston and Noxubee counties and two in Kemper.
The announcement of the grant comes one week after Pickering was awarded the 2001 Community Health Super Hero Award from the National Association of Community Health Centers Inc. and Health Centers from Mississippi for his support.
