Renfrow rape trial set to begin today

The trial of a Meridian man accused of raping a 3-year-old girl is scheduled to begin today in Lauderdale County Circuit Court.
Harland Craig Renfrow, 39, was indicted by a grand jury in November on charges he raped the girl June 10, 2000. The child was transported to University Medical Center in Jackson shortly after the attack, and has undergone two surgeries since that time.
Lauderdale County investigators learned of the attack after emergency room personnel at Riley Hospital reported the incident.
Renfrow was segregated from the general population at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility after another inmate, Michael Dock, allegedly threw a cooler at him, striking his head. Renfrow's injury required stitches.
The incident happened two weeks after Renfrow's June 13 arrest. Dock, who is in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on kidnapping charges, was charged with simple assault in the incident.
Renfrow, who has been denied bond, has remained segregated from the jail's population and in 23-hour lockdown since that time.
