Meridian Community College defeated Northeast Mississippi 7-2 in men's tennis and 6-3 in women's tennis Tuesday at Northeast Park.
In men's singles action, MCC's Stewart Everett lost 7-5, 6-3 to Joshua Bryant in the No. 1 position. At No. 2, MCC's Albert Smith defeated Andrew Clements 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3, Bard Curto of MCC fell to Tim Garner 6-1, 6-2.
In the No. 4 singles, MCC's Brad Dearman defeated Dwain McKeel 6-3, 6-3. At No. 5, Dustin Davidson of MCC beat Russ Johnson 6-4, 6-3. And at No. 6, Kevin McDonald of MCC defeated Matthew Cummings 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, Everett and Smith beat Bryant and Clements 8-6, McDonald and Davidson defeated Johnson and Keith Stegall 10-8, and Curto and Dearman beat McKeel and Blake Jones 9-7.
In women's play, MCC's Kelly Trebisky took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cassie Cutshall in the No. 1 singles. At No. 2, MCC's Dana Vance knocked off Rebecca Freeman 6-3, 5-7, 10-2.
At No. 3, Northeast's Shannon Beasley claimed a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over MCC's Jill Hathorn. At No. 4, Northeast's Andrea Fawcett beat MCC's Meredith Vance 7-5, 2-6, 10-5.
MCC's Anna Bailey and Lauren Gavin took the No. 5 and 6 singles respectively by default. Bailey and Jamie Kirkley also took a doubles win by default.
In other doubles play, Trebisky and Hathorn defeated Cutshall and Freeman 8-5, while Vance and Vance beat Beasley and Fawcett 8-5.
MCC returns to action on April 18 at home against Jefferson State of Birmingham, Ala.
