The Lake Hornets continued their dynamic and somewhat uncontested run through Division 6-1A with a 9-1 blasting of the winless Pisgah Dragons on the road Wednesday.
The Hornets (19-6, 11-1 in 6-1A) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second with a run.
They added another in the third before getting two scores in each of the next three innings.
The Dragons etched out their lone score in the bottom of the fifth.
Brandon Burrus (1-2) went seven innings, allowing only one hit while striking out 10 Pisgah hitters.
Jason McGee went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Eric Watkins grabbed a pair of hits while driving in a run. Jake Nester also came through for Lake with a pair of RBIs.
The Dragons committed five errors, while LHS rapped 11 hits.
Lake will host St. Aloysuis Saturday at 1 p.m., to decide the division championship.
Copiah Academy 7, Lamar 2: The Raiders fell in the completion of a suspended game played Tuesday. Calen Cline took the win for Copiah.
Jared McKee was the bright spot for the Raiders with an RBI double Monroe Mayfield also added an RBI for Lamar, which fell to 11-6 overall and 2-3 in District 3-AAA.
Drew Moffett added a pair of hits, but Copiah upped its mark to 14-5.
The Raiders will play host to Heritage in a doubleheader today.
Softball
Newton County 15, Choctaw Central 1: The Lady Cougars continued their unstoppable run through Division 5, Class 3A/2A/1A with a quick run-ruling of the Lady Warriors at home.
Suzanne Chaney (7-1) struck out three and walked only one, while giving up just two hits and no runs to pick up the victory for four innings of work.
The Lady Warriors' Jessica Bell was placed in the loss column, as the Lady Cougars hung 10 runs in the bottom of the first.
Stephanie Airhart and Shelly Ferguson each grabbed a pair of hits. April Bufkin had a two-RBI triple. Airhart also drove in two runs. Krissi Harris also had an RBI.
Other hitters for NCHS were Dominique Mapp, Jessica Sheehan, Lindsey Little, Jennifer Smith and Holly Jackson.
The Lady Warriors scratched out their lone run in the top of the fifth.
Newton County will host Noxapater in a doubleheader that begins at 5 p.m. today.
