The Lake Hornets got revenge for their only Division 6-1A loss of the season Monday afternoon with a 3-1 win over St. Aloysius, but the Flashes from Vicksburg still captured the division title.
Lake will go to Bogue Chitto Thursday for Game 1 of a best-of-three, MHSAA Class 1A playoff series at a time to be announced. The defending state champion Hornets host Game 2 Friday.
In Monday's 3-1 win over St. Aloysius, senior Craig Martin tossed a two-hitter to carry Lake.
Martin (7-0) struck out three and gave up no earned runs, and Lake turned a pair of double plays.
Charlie Amborn had the only two hits for the Flashes.
Lake had just four hits itself: Eric Watkins was 2-for-2 with a run scored, Brandon Burrus singled, Bryan Williamson singled and scored and Eric Gunn also scored.
The Hornets broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Following the St. Aloysius game, the Hornets took on Sebastopol and picked up their 21st win with a 3-0 victory.
The Hornets scored two runs in the first and one in the fifth to get the win.
Eric Watkins (4-2) picked up the win for Lake and Jake Nester got his second save of the season.
Alex Shepherd (5-5) was the losing pitcher for Sebastopol.
Alex Fisher led Sebastopol (14-4) at the plate with a double.
Lake (21-6 overall, 13-1 District 6-1A) was led at the plate by Jason Magee with a triple.
The game was a defensive battle with Lake only managing two hits as a team and Sebastopl only connecting for four hits.
NE Lauderdale 12, Enterprise 1: Although the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans won't be making the postseason this year, they were still able to wrap up the campaign in style with a 12-1 pasting of the Enterprise Bulldogs.
Stephen Bergin tossed his second no-hitter of the season and improved to 4-4 by striking out four.
Dustin Murray took the loss for EHS, which scored its lone run in the third and hurt its chances with four errors.
A seven-spot in the fifth by NEL, which finished third in its division (14-10, 7-5 in Division 5-4A) ended it early.
Phillip Garrett was a key factor at the plate, missing the cycle by only a single. Garret blasted a homer, a double and a triple.
Adam Lester went 4-for-4 and Chase4 Spencer, Will Matlock and will Gardner each collected two hits.
