Need a job?
There are plenty of area high school coaching vacancies needing to be filled for the 2001-2002 school year.
Some schools have found their replacements while others are still looking. And some jobs will be coming open in the next few weeks.
None will be busier than Kemper County, where the advertising has begun for new head coaches in football, baseball, and boys' basketball.
The Wildcats were 25-12 in boys' basketball, but only 1-14 in baseball and 0-10 in football this year.
Noxubee County will be looking for a pair of basketball coaches as long-time girls' coach Narvel Colemon and veteran boys' coach Willie Triplett have announced their retirements.
Colemon had 730 wins in 29 seasons. He led Noxubee to Class 4A state championships in 1993 and 1994 and was the state runner-up on seven occasions. In all, his teams made 15 state tournament appearances.
The Noxubee girls were 30-7 this year, reaching the Class 4A state semifinals.
Triplett went 19-16 in his 30th and final year at Noxubee with the Tigers winning their first division championship in 14 years. The Noxubee boys advanced to the Class 4A North State Tournament.
Lamar School filled its football vacancy with the hiring of former Meridian head coach Mac Barnes, who was 168-63-1 in 20 years with the Wildcats. Lamar, meanwhile, has an all-time record of 116-180-1 in its 30 seasons of football.
Now Lamar is looking for a boys' basketball coach after Todd Yates resigned to take a similar job at St. Andrew's Episcopal School near Ridgeland.
The Raiders were 30-35 in Yates' two seasons, including a 10-22 mark this year. Lamar went 20-13 in Yates' first season.
Neshoba Central is back in the market for a head football coach after Pat Davis resigned after three years to be a defensive line coach at Horn Lake. The Rockets were 14-16 in Davis' three seasons, including a 5-5 mark in 2000.
Neshoba Central principal/athletic director Bobby Richardson has also resigned to work at the vocational center at Columbus next year.
Richardson previously coached basketball at Neshoba and Philadelphia, winning the Class 2A state championship at Philadelphia in 1993 and finishing second in 1990.
Newton County hired Wyatt Tullos as its new baseball coach at its last school board meeting. Tullos led Lake to the Class 1A state championship in 2000 and currently has Hamilton in the 1A state playoffs with a 19-3 record. Ironically, Lake beat Hamilton in last year's state championship series.
Newton County is still in the market for a girls' basketball coach. The Lady Cougars were 27-5 this year under Richard Harris but were unable to get out of Division 5-3A after losing to eventual Class 3A state champion Southeast Lauderdale in the semifinals.
Newton County Academy is also looking for a girls' basketball coach. Current headmaster Gary Pinson finished out the season after Rex Schoerner left in early January.
NCA has filled its head football vacancy with the hiring of current Delta State University student Brian Sims.
Northeast Lauderdale filled its head football opening with the hiring of Andy Stevens.
Union was also in the market for a head football coach but has hired Noxapater assistant Brad Breland to fill that position.
Louisville is looking for a boys' basketball coach as Crandel Porter will be coaching both the girls' and boys' teams at Newton next year.
Clarkdale is looking for a boys' basketball coach following the resignation of Ronny Roberts after an 8-19 season.
Bubba Hathorn has been named to take over as head football coach at Clarkdale.
Philadelphia is looking for a girls' basketball coach to replace Bobby Butler. The Lady Tornadoes were 15-15 this season.
Philadelphia will also be looking for a fast-pitch softball coach as Mike Brown will be going to Kosciusko next year as an assistant football coach. The Lady Tornadoes were 13-5 this year.
Wayne County has added East Central Community College assistant football coach Todd Mangum to its staff as defensive coordinator/assistant principal for next year.
Carthage is in the market for a boys' basketball coach to replace Johnny Greer, who resigned following an 8-20 season.
Edinburg is looking for a girls' and boys' basketball coach following the resignation of Steve Moorhead. The Lady Eagles were 11-16 this year, while the Eagles went 7-21. Nanih Waiya boys' coach Mitch Alford is expected to be nominated for those jobs at the next Leake County school board meeting.
The Forest girls' basketball job is open following a 23-13 year that saw the Lady Bearcats reach the Class 3A South State Tournament under Luke Gibbon.
Winston Academy is in the market for a head football coach after Wyatt Rodgers left for the University of Tennesee-Martin.
