Louisville's Kentay Eiland hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh to give the Wildcats a 5-4 win at Cleveland in the decisive third game of their best-of-three Class 4A first-round series Saturday at Cleveland.
Louisville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and went up 4-0 in the top of the third on a three-run homer by Marquess Ledbetter.
Cleveland tied the game at 4-4 on a three-run homer from Josh Mosley in the bottom of the fifth. Mosley had three of Cleveland's six hits.
Eiland then hit the game-winning homer in the top of the seventh as Louisville improved to 19-11.
Louisville freshman Brandon Dotson (1-0) got the complete-game win in his first start of the season.
Tucker Jennings (6-3) took the loss. Blaise King had a double for Cleveland, 20-11.
Louisville stranded nine baserunners. The Wildcats also got a double apiece from Tyler Rogers and Anthony Stanford.
The Wildcats will face Pearl in the second round of the playoffs which begin on Friday due to statewide testing next week. Louisville will host the series opener at 6 p.m.
Late baseball results
Heidelberg Academy 7, Sylva-Bay Academy 2: The Rebels broke a 1-1 deadlock with five runs in the top of the third inning in beating the Saints Friday.
Heidelberg had six hits while Sylva-Bay had four.
The Rebels have won 10 straight to improve to 13-4 overall. The win also clinched the Academy 3-A championship. The Rebels have won six straight district championships.
Matt Culberson (5-1) got the win, allowing one run and two hits in four innings. He struck out six.
Scott McInnis tossed three innings, giving up one run and two hits while fanning four.
Lane Starbuck took the loss. He allowed six runs and five hits while striking out six.
Culberson and Derek McKey both had a double for Heidelberg. McInnis added a single and a double, while Ryan Aultman had a single and a home run.
Starbuck had a double to lead Sylva-Bay.
Heidelberg travels to Tri-County Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the first game of the Academy A state playoffs.
