LIVINGSTON, Ala. City officials here are looking for a fire chief after Kevin Brunson resigned late last week.
Livingston Mayor Tom Tartt said Capt. Terry Peeler has been been appointed interim chief. City officials are advertising to fill the vacant position in addition to another open position at the department.
Brunson has accepted a director's position at Jackson Emergency Transport Services in Jackson, Ala., effective May 15.
Brunson said he accepted the position for a variety of reasons.
Brunson's wife, Katherine, is an environmental science major at the University of West Alabama in Livingston and is scheduled to graduate this summer.
Brunson has served Livingston since 1990. Starting out as a volunteer firefighter, he worked his way up to full-time and was made captain in the mid-1990s.
He served as captain for six years until Assistant Fire Chief Carl Edwards died of cancer about a year ago. Brunson then served as interim fire chief until October 2000, when the mayor and city council members appointed him fire chief, he said.
Brunson is certified in law enforcement. He's a firefighter II, a nationally-registered paramedic and serves as am adjunct faculty member for the Alabama Fire College.
