Eagles take second in Region 23 track meet

RAYMOND Meridian Community College ran a strong second Thursday in the Region 23 track meet which was held on the Hinds Community College campus.
Hinds racked up 87 points to win the meet. MCC finished second with 57 points while Jones Junior College notched 16 points and Holmes tabbed nine.
Meridian Community College competitors racked up six first-place finishes.
Gideon Chapkwony won the men's 5000 meters run with a time of 16:20.6; and Greg Seals placed first in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 2 inches.
The 4×400 relay team, composed of Ivan Gray, Greg Lambert, Del Morehouse and Damion Samuels, finished first with a time of 3:16.29.
In the 400 meter run, Gray placed first with a time of 46.98; while Damion Samuels came in fourth.
Morehouse came in first in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles with a time of 55.44; while Courtney Barlow won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.58.
Jerry Teachery came in second in the 800 meter run for the Eagles. Gray came in second in 200 meter dash for MCC, and Kenneth Wade placed fourth. Wade also finished second in the 100 meter run.
