EMMETT LEE MELTON
Retired operator with Southern Natural Gas
Services for Emmett Lee Melton were to be held today at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home chapel, with the Revs. Richard Cothern and Taylor Wallace officiating. Burial was to be in Enterprise Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Melton, 89, of Enterprise, died Thursday, April 3, 2001, in Quitman. He was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church, a charter member of Enterprise Fire Department and president of the riding club.
Survivors include four sons, Rube Melton, Cecil Melton, Wilbur Melton and Steve Melton, all of Enterprise; a daughter, Kay Creel of Enterprise; two brothers, Pete Melton and Marvin Melton, both of Selma, Ala.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Melton; his wife, Lena Melton; three brothers, Cecil Melton, Albert Melton and Bill Melton; and his parents, Ben and Rosie Melton.

PHILADELPHIA Services for Clyde Nicholson will be held today at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Neshoba County, with McClain-Hays Funeral Service in charge of arrangements .
Mr. Nicholson, 86, a resident of the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Jackson, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Jackson. He was born and raised in Neshoba County and made his home in Pearl most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church of Pearl.
Survivors include two sisters, Lessie Plowman of Meridian and Bernice Strickland of Brandon; two nieces, Joann Lasser of St. Louis, Mo., and Gerri Edwards of Toomsuba; a nephew, Nick D. Strickland of Brandon; and two great-nephews, Nicky Strickland Jr. of Brandon and Chuck Dorman of Collinsville.
Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service.

QUITMAN Services for Louvenia Esther Coats will be held today at 2 p.m. at Stonewall Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Grady Crowell and Terry Steppee officiating. Burial will be in Stonewall Cemetery with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Coats, 87, of Quitman, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Lakeside Living Center.
Survivors include five sons, Ray Long of Gardendale, Ala., Willie Coats of Decatur, Dennis Coats of Quitman, Douglas Coats of LaVernia, Texas and Richard Coats of Stonewall; a brother, Jack Tew of Beaumont, Texas; three sisters, Myrtle Buffington of Conroe, Texas, Doris Quinelly of Marion and Obera Thomas of Birmingham, Ala.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service.
RUSSELL MOORE DENNIS
Retired assistant foreman for The Meridian Star
Graveside services for Russell Moore Dennis will be held today at 3 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Carl White officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dennis, 88, of Meridian, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was the assistant foreman in the composing room at The Meridian Star for 43 years. Mr. Dennis was a member of Highland Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two daughters, Russelyn Keyes and her husband, John, and Faye Poe, and a sister, Valeria Mixon, all of Meridian; grandchildren, Jesselyn Harper, Randy Sharman, Joey D. Poe and Sandra Dennis, all of Meridian, James D. Poe Jr. and Rusty Sharman, both of Birmingham, Ala.; 12 great-grandchildren, seven nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Vandevender Dennis.
The family requests memorials be made to CDC Playground at Highland Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Jim Poe, Joey Poe, Rusty Sharman, Randy Sharman, Randall George and Roger Harper. Honorary pallbearer will be John Keyes.
Visitation will be today from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
MAXIE LEE DAWSON
U.S. Army; retired from Ford Motor Company
DEKALB Services for Maxie Lee Dawson will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church in DeKalb, with the Rev. Greg Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with E.E. McDonald Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dawson, 55, of DeKalb, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Ford Motor Company.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dawson of DeKalb; his father, Maxie Dawson and his wife, Sofie, of Bessemer, Ala.; six sons, Anthony J. Dawson, Maxcy R. Dawson and Terrell Counts, all of Detroit, David Rush of DeKalb, DeWayne Rush and Danny Rush, both of Meridian; four daughters, YoLanda Dawson, Tiana Dawson and LaDawn Counts, all of Detroit, and Shirley Rush of Meridian; a granddaughter; a sister, Jeruthie B. Lockett of Jackson; and several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
