City tourney has big impact on city

The benefits this year's Gulf South Conference Tournament are simply immeasurable to Meridian according to GSC officials and city leaders who struggled a couple of years ago to bring the tournament to Northeast Park.
Now in its third year at the North Meridian complex, Gulf South Conference Commissioner Nathan Salant said Meridian is an excellent fit for the GSC.
Salant said realistically GSC officials thought that at the beginning of the tournament seven of the eight teams had a shot at the title.
Salant said the North Meridian Optimists have provided everything the conference has asked for in the way of improvements.
City Councilman George Thomas, one of the tourney's main organizers, said this year's tourney has so far been a rousing success.
