Meridian police are searching for a man wanted in connection with the Mother's Day aggravated assault of a Meridian woman.
The woman, injured with a sharp object, was transported to a local hospital Sunday, where she underwent surgery for severe cuts to the head and back, said Lt. Wade Johnson of the Meridian Police Department.
Johnson said he could not disclose the type weapon used in the assault, which occurred at an East End home at 11:34 Sunday morning.
Johnson said police are searching for Gregory Sykes, who is believed to be 30 to 40 years old. A warrant for aggravated assault was issued Sunday for the Meridian many.
Johnson said police have no other information about Sykes, other than he is black and is believed to have fled the area.
Johnson said Sykes and the victim are not married. While he is not sure of the relationship between them, police are under obligation to file charges according to the state's domestic violence statutes, he said.
Residents with information can call CrimeStoppers at 485-1860.
