A Tuesday afternoon fire burned a Lauderdale County house to the ground.
Butler said no one was home at the 939 Linton Road residence at the time of the fire, about 2:30 p.m., and no one was injured while extinguishing the blaze. The home is owned by the Hastings family, he said.
Volunteers from three departments Russell, Vimville and Toomsuba, worked to contain the blaze to the house and prevent flames from spreading to a nearby carport and boat shed and to the surrounding woods, Butler said.
The firefighters worked for more than an hour to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, although Butler said he is looking at several possibilities and hopes an investigation will pinpoint an exact cause.
Investigators were able to determine the fire began in a rear bedroom of the home, he said.
