RICHTON Services for Thomas Harmon Jones will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Clarke Venable Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Ethridge and Stan Buckley officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery with Jones Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jones, 82, of Decatur, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in his home. He was a Deacon and member of Clarke Venable Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Harmon was a lifetime resident of Newton County. He served as a Newton County supervisor for 12 years and as a commissioner on the Newton County Soil and Water Commission for several years. He was a farmer and an independent contractor with Dairyman Inc. He was also a member of the Decatur Lion's Club for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie B. Jones and a son, Kenneth R. Jones and his wife, Rosemary, all of Decatur; a daughter, Shirley F. Bowler and her husband, Paul, of Newark, Del.; four grandchildren, Lisa Jones of Hattiesburg, Tommy Jones of Decatur, Traci Bowler of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Teri Bumpers of Euless, Texas; and a great-grandchild, Mary Grace Jones of Decatur.
Pallbearers will be Claxton "Rusty" Barnett, George Hayes, Wayne Comans, Kenneth Chaney, Marty Ezell, Avery "Bud" Smith and Chris Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible class and Pal's class.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home in Newton.

BUTLER, Ala. Graveside services for William Alvin Powell will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Ward. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Powell, 85, of Semmes, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude S. Powell, a son, Alvin Gregory Powell and a daughter, Virginia G. Lyndall, all of Semmes; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
JOHNNIE EDGAR ALLEN
QUITMAN Services for Johnnie Edgar Allen will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Assembly of God with the Revs. David Mills, James Irby, Grant Duncan and Charlie Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Creek Cemetery with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Allen, 74, of Quitman, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 27, 1926, in Needham, Ala.
Survivors include his wife, Maudie S. Allen of Quitman; five daughters, Paulette Welborn and her husband, Benny, and Tennie Shelton and her husband, Charlie, all of Quitman, Maudine Raley and her husband, Eddie, of Baytown, Texas, Becky Love and her husband, Ronald, of Hollister, Calif., and Francis Hipp and her husband, Larry, of Hope, Ark.; two brothers, David Allen and his wife, Geraldine, of Butler, Ala., and Levelle Allen of Cartwright, Okla.; two sisters, Esther Reynolds of Chatom, Ala. and Annie Ruth Emmons and her husband, Marvin, of Laurel; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday beginning at noon at the church.

YORK, Ala. Services for R.G. Basinger will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at York Baptist Church with the Rev. Grant McLain officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Memorial Gardens in Cuba with Bumpers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Basinger, 72, of York, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in his home.
Survivors include his wife, Erion Basinger of York; two sons, Glenn Basinger of Demopolis and Don Basinger of Livingston.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

PHILADELPHIA Prayer services for Peggy D. Johnson will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service with the Rev. Kenan Ryan officiating. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, Ky.
Mrs. Johnson, 69, of the Madden Community of Leake County, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
Survivors include her son, Vess Lee Johnson of Austin, Texas; a brother, Wallace Melton of Checotah, Okla.; and a sister, Mary Lee Roberts of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee E. Johnson.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
Visitation will be Friday beginning at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
WILLIAM HOWARD SPENCE
NEWTON Services for William Howard Spence will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Clarke Venable Baptist Church. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Spence, 88, of Decatur, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Newton Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
JESSE EARL BARNEY
Services for Jesse Earl Barney will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greenhill Baptist Church in Toomsuba with the Rev. E.E. McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery with James L. Osby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Barney, 50, of Toomsuba, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, in Kewanee.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Barney, and two daughters, Elaine Barney and Chansty Barney, all of Cleveland, Ohio; his mother, Virgia Barney of Toomsuba; four sisters, Mary Smith of Cleveland, Ruby Jenkins of Toomsuba, Gloria Barney and Gladys Troup, both of Meridian; two brothers, Lonnie Barney and Earnest Barney, both of Cleveland.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at E.E. McDonald Funeral Home Chapel.
