Proceeds from a gospel concert scheduled Friday at the Queen City Speedway will go toward the Corinth Baptist Church's building fund.
The historical church in the Damascus community was destroyed by a December fire, and workers poured the concrete slab for the new church late last week.
The site for the new church is a little less than a mile from where the old church, built in 1906, stood on Highway 495 North, Higginbotham said.
The historic church burned to the ground on Dec. 11. Many members of the congregation were born in the building, Rev. Robert Higginbotham said.
The gospel concert is sponsored by Queen City Speedway, Geraldine Higginbotham said.
Featured entertainment will be the Perry Sisters from West Virginia, Jason Davidson from Sebastopol, Ginger Todd from Hattiesburg, the Crystal River Group from the Philadelphia and Collinsville areas and the Blacklidge Quartet from the Cathedral Assembly of God in Meridian.
Tickets are $10 and lower group rates are also available. They can be bought at the gate or in advance at the Bible Book Store and Hair Studio. Children under 12 get in free.
There will be a full concession stand, door prizes and a silent auction. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the concert begins at 7 p.m. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Frank Cochran Center. For more information, call Higginbotham at 483-0222 or Lisa Pevey at 737-5052.
