Jones Junior College sophomore Temmika Sims will continue her basketball career at Texas A&M University.
The 5'11" All-Region 23 forward signed a scholarship on April 26 to play ball next season for the Lady Aggies. Sims is the daughter of Brenda Sims and Keith Green of Clarke County.
A resident of Stonewall and graduate of Quitman High School, Sims helped lead the JCJC Lady Bobcats to an impressive 23-8 record this year. Sims averaged 16.2 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 15 blocks. The Lady Bobcats won both the South State and State championships.
Sims is the second junior college player from Mississippi to sign with the Lady Aggies. Also headed west is Northwest Community College guard Rhonda Cooper.
Texas A&M will be turning to these transfers to provide immediate help after going 12-16 overall and 2-14 in Big 12 Conference action.
Also in attendance for her signing was Sims' high school coach, Judy Morgan.
During her two years at Jones, Sims won many. In addition to being an All-Region 23 selection, she was named to the All-Region 23 Tournament Team twice and the All-State Team as a sophomore. This year was also selected
Second Team All-American.
Although Sims had talked several times by telephone to representatives from Texas A&M, it wasn't until the All-Star game in March that talks turned serious. Texas A&M showed immediate interest in her talent and signed her as soon as possible.
With many emotions and excitement, Sims will leave for Texas A&M in early August. While there, she will continue her studies as a business major.
