Newton County's Relay for Life set for Friday
Newton County's Relay for Life teams are trying to meet a goal of $40,000. If they do so, Sen. Terry C. Burton, D-Newton, and Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight will kiss a pig in the middle of downtown Newton at noon on June 4. Contact Lisa Roebuck at 683-2031 or 683-6815 to make contributions. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. Newton County's Relay for Life walk will be held Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. at East Central Community College.
Girl Scouts offer camps
Girl Scouts of Gulf Pines Council will offer five weeks of resident camps in Lauderdale County and the surrounding areas.
During the week-long resident camps, girls can enjoy an on-site horseback riding arena and trail, swimming, canoeing, archery, ceramics, sports, arts and crafts and many other fun activities.
Day Camp will be offered at Newton County Day Camp at Turkey Creek Water Park, in Decatur, June 11-15. Clarke County Day Camp will be offered at Clarkco State Park, June 18-22. In Neshoba County, Day Camp will be held at Neshoba Baptist Center in Philadelphia, June 25-29.
All camps run 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The cost is $40 for registered Girl Scouts and $47 for non-registered girls.

Hickory Day set for June 9
Hickory Day will be held June 9 in Hickory's downtown park. Events include shopping booths, antique cars, entertainment, games and a children's corner. The event is sponsored by the Greater Hickory Chamber of Commerce. For information, call 646-9496 or 646-2211.
MLT announces youth workshops
Meridian Little Theater's Summer Youth Workshop will be held June 25-29. The one-week session, four classes a day, will cover drama, dance, music and art.
Tuition is $75. A deposit of $25 is required by May 31. Scholarship applications may be picked up at the MLT office from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, call 482-6371.
Local hospice seeks volunteers
SouthernCare Hospice is looking for caring people who are interested in doing volunteer work. Duties include making telephone calls, visiting patients, giving caregivers a rest and running errands. If you are interested, call volunteer coordinator Weston Burnside at 683-7500.
Silver Leaf hosts vintage car club
Silver Leaf Manor will host the Vintage Wheels Club "Celebrating the Old Man and His Old Car" on June 17, in honor of Father's Day. The cruisin' event will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Silver Leaf Manor. For information, call Kerri Brown or Elizabeth Bridwell at 483-4566.
