Builders for Christ in church construction

Members of the Lauderdale County Builders for Christ know a lot about building and a lot about volunteering. Their construction of Corinth Baptist Church in Damascus marks the 23rd year they've been building churches.
T.S. Pigford helped get the organization started and continues traveling with the organization to build each church.
In 1987, the group went to Tuttle, Okla., to build a church and picked up some members for their organization from in and near Tuttle, he said.
Each year during the first full week of June, the organization travels to build a church. Besides California, Alaska and Oklahoma, they've been to Michigan, West Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas and Montana.
This is the first time they have built a church this close to home.
There are 105 members registered to help build the new church. Members are from Collinsville First Baptist Church, State Boulevard Baptist Church and Marion First Baptist Church. They are joined by members from other Mississippi churches and the group from Oklahoma, Pigford said.
Members who aren't building will be cooking and hosting the Backyard Bible School Bible School hosted at the building site for people recruited from the area earlier in the week.
A dinner for the volunteers will be held at Collinsville First Baptist Church Monday at 6 p.m.
