STARKVILLE – Mississippi State softball head coach Kathy Arendsen announced Thursday the signing of her first junior college transfer since 1998 as Bolton native and Meridian Community College standout Faith Robinson inked her name to a scholarship agreement to continue her playing career with the Bulldogs.
Robinson comes to Starkville following a pair of stellar years with the Eagles in which she helped lead Meridian to successive appearances at the NJCAA national tournament.
A three-sport athlete at Clinton High School, Robinson burst onto the junior college scene immediately, turning in a .361 clip with 12 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 35 RBI during her freshman season to help lead Meridian to a 40-15 record as well as District O, Region 23 and Miss.-Lou. conference championships. In addition, Meridian earned a berth into the NJCAA national tournament, with Robinson earning all-Region 23 honors at season's end.
This season, she picked up where she had left off, hitting .407 with 13 doubles, two triples, one home run and 30 RBI en route to capturing first team NJCAA All-American honors as a designated player. She also helped the Eagles churn off a 41-13 record to earn their second-straight appearance at the NJCAA national tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. The Eagles captured District O and Region 23 championships in 2001, with Robinson capturing her second-straight all-Region 23 accolades along the way.
A fastpitch and slowpitch softball player at Clinton, Robinson earned all-state honors in both following her senior seasons in the respective sports. As a junior, she helped lead the Lady Arrows slowpitch squad to the Mississippi state championship and matched the feat as a senior when she paced the fastpitch team to the state crown.
